Seychelles was represented at the eighth sanremoJunior held recently in Italy. sanremoJunior is a song competition for soloists artists aged between six to 15 years old.
Jade Jolene du Preez aged 13 years old came out fourth in the A3 category which was for vocalists aged 13-15. There were three categories for the competition. The other two were A1 for soloists aged between six to nine years old, A2 for those aged between 10-12 years old. She was accompanied in Italy by her mother Irene du Preez and the national choir’s director and conductor Xiaoju Lownam.
The Minister for Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine Maurice Loustau-Lalanne attended the 105th session of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) executive council which took place in Madrid, Spain from May 11-12.
Minister Loustau-Lalanne was accompanied by the principal secretary for tourism Anne Lafortune. Seychelles has been a member of the executive council since 2013.
‘Seychelles committed to create greater accessibility for Chinese travellers,’ says Tourism Minister
Seychelles is working to create greater accessibility for the Chinese travellers, especially now that the destination has seen an increase in the number of inbound travellers from China.
The Minister for Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine Maurice Loustau-Lalanne said this during an interview with members of the Chinese press in Shanghai.
“We are delighted that Seychelles has become one of the preferred holiday destinations for Chinese travellers, who are looking for unique, unforgettable experiences,” said Minister Loustau-Lalanne.
The Seychelles Tourism Board (STB) has officially launched its marketing campaign to reposition the destination in China.
This was during a press conference held at the Four Seasons hotel in Shanghai on May 9, whereby the Minister for Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine Maurice Loustau-Lalanne and the STB’s chief executive Sherin Francis met members of the media.
Kenneth Racombo has been appointed as head of resource mobilisation and development at the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Regional Tourism Organisation of Southern Africa (RETOSA).
Mr Racombo who is currently the director general for development and regional integration at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, started his career as an economist working for the same ministry.
Members of the Seychelles’ tourism trade met representatives of the business community and of the government during the second multi-sectoral meeting held recently. The aim of the multi-sectoral meeting is to pave the way forward in overcoming challenges that the tourism industry faces and to touch base on what has been achieved so far in regards to the challenges aired during the previous meetings.
