The countdown has begun! Fourth edition of the Seychelles Regatta - sailing competition kicks off May 27
Seychelles is set to welcome yet another sporting event in 2018. The island nation will be hosting a high-level sailing competition, only a week after it becomes the first African host of the FINA/Hosa Marathon Swim World Series, this weekend. Preparations are being finalized for the fourth edition of the Seychelles Regatta – sailing competition, set to take place from May 27 to June 3, 2018.
First launched in 2009, the Seychelles Regatta was held for three consecutive years until 2011. The event is now back on the Seychelles’ calendar of events after a six-year break.
France-based company -- ‘Publi Voile’ – is spearheading the event, with the support of the Seychelles authorities, including the Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine, Seychelles Tourism Board (STB) and Seychelles Yachting Association.
In keeping up with the practice adopted by his predecessors, the new Minister for Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine, Didier Dogley, has undertaken his first hotel visit.
Minister Dogley was accompanied by the Principal Secretary for Tourism, Anne Lafortune, on the visit to eight small establishments of less than 10 rooms in South Mahé.
The visit started at Pied dans L’eau self-catering in the Anse Royale district, where he also stopped at the Coco Blanche self-catering and Le Nautique Luxury Beachfront Apartments.
The return of Air France to Seychelles, through its new sister airline ‘Joon’ was marked by an inaugural ceremony on Tuesday.
The airline’s Airbus A340, flown by Captain Sophie Bordmann, was greeted by a water canon salute as it touched down at the international airport, shortly after 7am.
The Minister for Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine, Didier Dogley, Principal Secretary for Tourism, Anne Lafortune, Principal Secretary for Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine, Garry Albert, Chief Executive of the Seychelles Tourism Board, Sherin Francis, as well as high officials of the Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority and Air France were present at the airport.
The new Minister for Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine, Didier Dogley, moved into his new office at Botanical House on Friday May 4, 2018.
Formerly the minister of Environment, Energy and Climate Change, he was assigned the new portfolio in a Cabinet reshuffle announced by President Danny Faure on April 26.
Minister Dogley has welcomed his appointment as the new minister responsible for tourism, adding that it provides him with an excellent opportunity to shift his efforts, from taking care of the bedrock of Seychelles tourism -- the natural environment -- to ensuring that discerning visitors get to discover and experience the true qualities of the Seychelles islands as a world class destination.
A group of 20 tour operators and travel agents in Ireland now have a broader knowledge of the Seychelles islands and its products, which will allow them to better sell the destination.
The group recently attended a destination training organised by the Seychelles Tourism Board’s UK office.
The training in the form of an evening presentation was held at the Spencer – a new and popular spot in Dublin.
